Get Ready!

Jay and Rhapsody link up for this interesting commercial for the Blueprint 3.

Drake feat. Trey Songz - SUCCESSFUL

Trey adds a verse. Weezy subtracts a verse. I heard Thank Me Later comes out on Valentine's Day so I'm guessing he is going to have to release at least one more video before then. This whole Drake thing is starting to have BUST written all over it. I think the music on the album is going to be good and I think he will sell respectable numbers, but if he would have struck while the iron was scorching, the impact would have been huge!! I mean Jeremih sold like 60,000 his first week with one song. Drake could have done about 300,000 easy. I'm not sure if this wait is a good thing or a bad thing, but it's not the strategy that I would have used.

Props to Nahright and On Smash

Freeway, Young Chris, and Beanie Sigel - LAST TWO

I think they kill about 50 people on this song. Talk about "Murder, Murder, Kill, Kill"!! Lol, but the song is ill. Looking back on my CD collection, The Roc had some serious posse cuts. Bring back 2001!!!

Jay-Z Interview w/ Bill Maher

In case you missed the show on Friday here is Jay's interview with Bill Maher. It was pretty interesting, but I hoped that they would have talked about Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and The Game. This was more like an interview for people who might not be really familiar with Jay. But, the "Book of Rhymes" was a great gift. It looked like War and Peace!

Props to Dime Wars.

He's still got it

I think Jordan could still give you maybe ten good minutes a night in the NBA. The fadeaway is lethal.

Drake feat. Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, and Eminem - FOREVER

I liked this better when it was a Young Money record. I never thought I would say that given the star power on this joint, but it's the truth. This song sounds rushed and thrown together. The verses are cool, but the record doesn't sound as big as I think these artists may have wanted it to be. After Forever and Swagga Like Us I'm beginning to think that these superstar posse cuts are better ideas than actual products. I mean the energy and cohesiveness isn't the same as songs like "Niggas Done Started Something", "Blackout", or "24 Hours to Live." Those songs were hot because they didn't seem forced and the verses complimented each other. Oh well. I'll still bump this in the ride and enjoy it, but it shoulda been hotter. I mean the original Young Money version had Kid Kid saying "Make a plumber throw his plunger in the air, like 'I Can't Deal With This Shit!'" Classic!

Leaders1354 "Dope Boy Magic" Project Update

The re-up (week #3) from Joeseph Robinson on Vimeo.

So, the project continues for Vic and Joe of Leaders. They are supposed to have a duffel bag boy pushing the tees in front of one of their stores.

Tonight!

Ghostface feat. Raheem DeVaughn - BABY

I think Ghost is taking LL Cool J's spot as the ladies' rapper. Well Drake is taking that spot, but Ghost is coming in a close second. This song is smooth! Tony Starks has an album dropping in September so make sure you are on alert.

Brought to you by OnSmash and the good folks at Nahright.

Am I Too Old 2 Be a Rap Fan???

Interesting article posted over at Unkut.com. Personally I think you are never too old to be a fan of rap music or a fan of any particular artist. Also, I think it's cool to be a Stan as well. The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, Aretha Franklin, and plenty other artists have fans in their 60's that will fight to the death over their favorite artists. Why should hip-hop be any different? I'm going to have to do an editorial on this soon because a lot of rap music's original fans are in their 40's! Damn!!

LMFAO - Yes

I have to admit that I've been watching The Real World:Cancun this season. The people on there are, of course, crazy and overly dramatic. But, they have jobs as coordinators for a company called Student City which hosts Spring Break activities for college students. One of the events was a concert by LMFAO. They performed this song live and I, shamefully, liked it. The beat is bananas and the hook is hot. The lyrics....uh not so much. But, these cats have a lot of energy on stage so I can see the appeal.

Ochocinco Can Kick Too!

Chad (Johnson) Ochocinco stepped in for kicker Shayne Graham last week to kick a PAT and kickoff for the Bengals against MY Patriots. I've always been a fan of Chad so I really didn't mind him showcasing his new talent against MY team. It's always cool to see someone in sports step outside their comfort zone and try something different. Also, if you're not watching Hard Knocks on HBO it's not too late. The Bengals are being featured this year and Chad is in rare form in front of the camera............CHILD PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting Project.....

Making a brand .... Dope boy fresh from Joeseph Robinson on Vimeo.

How to buy. from Joeseph Robinson on Vimeo.

The guys behind Leaders1354, the sneaker and clothing boutique in Chicago, have a project going on where they are going to try and start a brand off of $80. They plan to flip the money and over and over to create better products. They say it is to show how the fashion and drug game are similar. I think the idea is pretty interesting, and I want to see how it turns out, but I think they have an advantage with already being established. Even though the brand is not called Leaders, people know who it is, so it not like some no name trying to come up. Still it's something to look out for. Check it out on their website, www.leaders1354.com

Jamie Foxx feat. Drake, The-Dream, and Kanye West - DIGITAL GIRL (REMIX)

"No strings attached, your love is so WiFi" - Drake

After taking a spill on stage, releasing a sub-par video, and somehow getting caught with a man's face in his crotch I figured Drake needed some good publicity. He added a really nice verse to a song that I've loved for a while. And the beat change on this remix is SICK!!!!

Props to Nahright and Mrworldpremiere.net

Jay-Z feat. Rihanna and Kanye West - RUN THIS TOWN

Talk about a pleasant surprise to the afternoon.

Strikeforce: Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg

I'm not a huge MMA fan, but I was kinda anxious to see the outcome of this one. They are going to HAVE to have a rematch soon because of the way it ended. I am also going to need some proof that Cris was born a woman. I mean she is one ruff woman. I still rep for Gina C!

What City Has the Best Lyricists???

This is going to be looked into further at a later date on this site. Because NY should be #1, but Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles will have a great argument for #2-#5. I'm feeling a Top 10 list coming soon............

Good Hair - Movie Trailer

Chris Rock will be releasing this new documentary on October 9th. Good Hair takes a look at the phenomenon of black women and hair. There are interviews from Raven-Symone, Salt-n-Pepa, Nia Long, Al Sharpton, and of course......Paul Mooney. This looks really entertaining and I know it will stir up some debate and get some good conversations started. I am really looking forward to see how Chris puts all this together. LMAO at Paul Mooney with the afro!

Forget all the BS, just get back to rappin! I'm losing respect for a lot of people in this rap game.

Nike Hyperize Clip

In the interest of full disclosure 1) I am a HUGE Philly Sixers fan, and 2) I am a HUGE Kevin Durant fan. So a new Nike commercial featuring Durant and the Sixers' Andre Iguodala was bound to catch my eye. Add to that a fun retro Kurtis Blow inspired concept, an assist from the legendary DJ Quik, and the clip comes out very nice. Oh yea the sneakers are kinda fresh too.

Artist Spotlight - Wale

DMV's own Wale (pronounced Wall-A) is now a bonafide rockstar! Actually he's like a rapstar, but you get the idea. Since the release of his third mixtape, 100 Miles and Running, over two years ago he has continuously blessed us with great music. Whether it is the Go-Go inspired "Breakdown", the thoughtful "The Kramer", or the lyrical re-thinking of The Roots instrumental "Work" Wale has always kept it entertaining. Now signed to Mark Ronson's Allido Records and managed by Jay-Z's ROC Nation one can only assume that his career is just now really blossoming. Now I used to question how sick he was on the mic. When I heard 100 Miles and Running I liked it, but mainly because of the beats and because I could tell he was having fun making the music. I wasn't ready to give the kid too many props. Then I heard The Mixtape About Nothing and I could tell that Wale had stepped up his lyrical game. Not to mention all the Seinfeld clips, references, and the totally F'n cool Julia Louis-Dreyfus appearance. That mixtape was one of the best thought out pieces of work I'd heard in a while. Fast forward to earlier this year when I heard that Wale was coming out with a new mixtape with tons of features from other rap artists. I was really anticipating that joint because the idea sounded cool. So after MONTHS of waiting Wale finally dropped Back to the Feature on June 19th featuring artists such as Talib Kweli, J.Cole, Curren$y, Joell Ortiz, Peedi Peedi, Bun B, Big Sean, and Jean Grae. I was very impressed by this effort because all the guests brought something to the table. This wasn't him saying that "I know a lot of people and I'm gonna show off my connects!" It was more of a "Let's get a lot of talented people together and make some dope music!" Wale's debut album, Attention: Deficit should be released on September 22nd of this year. It features his current single "Chillin" featuring Lady Gaga and production by Cool & Dre, Mark Ronson, and Sean C & LV. I'm hoping for some Go-Go inspired tracks because he is really the only dude I know that can flow over a Go-Go beat and still make it sound cool. He has free downloads to all three of his mixtapes via MySpace so check the kid out if you haven't already.

OLD SKOOL VIDEO SPOTLITE - The Fugees - "Fu-Gee-La"

"Girl bled to death while she was tongue kissing a razor blade" - Wyclef

Okay so every now and then I go through my extensive compact disc collection and try to find something good to play on the way to work. And a lot of times I look to the mid-90's for inspiration. This past Wednesday I popped in The Score and said "Damn!" Lauryn was so ill on the mic and they were all such great producers, I really wonder what would have happened if they never broke up. The group's first effort, Blunted on Reality, was pretty good but it didn't have too many standout tracks outside of "Nappy Heads" and "Vocab." But, they upped the ante with The Score. It was different, it was fresh, it was extremely innovative, and it changed the game for the group. One of the most popular songs from the album was "Fu-Gee-La" and the subsequent video. Everyone will remember L Boogie's "Oooh Laa Laa La" hook and how all three emcees came through hard on the lyrics. Salaam Remi produced this track for the group and he did a marvelous job. I'm not sure where they shot this video, but it looks so authentic and the caper feel was awesome. I think the video did a great job giving fans a glimpse on what exactly The Fugees were all about. I don't think there will ever be another group quite like The Fugees.

Obama Listens to Your Thoughts

President Obama reads 10 letters everyday sent by YOU the people. I'm sure most of them he reads now are in regards to healthcare, the economy, and "The War." This is really cool and I hope he is taking these to heart. Staying in touch with the needs of the people should bring forth good policy. Could Dubya even read?

"Eminem murdered you on your own shit" - NaS
