Young Con Anthem

I don't have time to rebuff this video for all the inaccuracies and political false statements it has. So, I'll look at it like a regular rap video. This is one of the most insulting videos I've seen in a while. Will Asher Roth and Eminem please whoop the shit out of these two cats for me?!?! Rapping has become so mainstream and diluted that THIS is considered rapping. And of course they are moving their arms around and saying "son" every 30 seconds. WTF??? The Young Cons made an appearance on Fox News and one of the hosts from Fox and Friends said "You guys don't look like rappers." And you know what, homey? They don't sound like rappers either! As a hip-hop fan, this makes me sick. I don't agree with their views, but they have every right to express them. I love hearing the conservative view point because it lets me know how the other side thinks. I have no problem with that. But, please don't pass this off as rap. This is nothing but a lame attempt for conservatives to try and reach the young folks because Barack has that demographic on LOCK! A recent Gallup Poll said the faces that Americans identified as the head of the Rubuplican party were Rush Limbaugh, John McCain, Newt Gingrich, Dick Cheney, and Michale Steele. They....are.....all.....really.....old. So maybe the Young Cons will reach some younger voters with this video. Good luck with that..........."son."

"Kinda Like A Big Deal" Video

The brothers Thornton dropped the video for "Kinda Like A Big Deal". The album is going to be a big deal, so I suggest you go out and get it September 8th when it comes out. The Clipse has yet to disappoint me, so I'm looking forward to it.

Artist Spotlight - Black Kids

Okay so they aren't ALL black, but it's still the name of the group. And because of them Pop music never sounded so good. Black Kids, consisting of brother/sister duo Reggie and Ali Youngblood, Dawn Watley, Kevin Snow, and Owen Holmes, hail from Jacksonville, Florida. They mix Pop, R&B, and Rock to make a very cool sound that you can't help but admire. When I purchased Lykke Li's Youth Novels album they did a remix of "I'm Good, I'm Gone" that I really liked so that kinda peeked my interest. Soooooo, obviously I was late on "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You" which is their most popular song. That song is a good time waiting to happen. I love how the girl chants the chorus at the end. I don't plan on being late to the party when they release their next banger!! And that banger just may be "Look at Me (When I Rock Wichoo)" because it's a great summer song. I'm not completely sold on Reggie's lead vocal ability. I mean, he has a very distinctive voice and you know it's him when you hear his voice, but it may grow tiresome after awhile. But, I think the coolest thing about Black Kids is how ill their videos are. They obviously don't have a big budget, but they know how to make great videos. I call it creativity in abundance. The group is pretty popular in the UK with all of their singles charting pretty high. They haven't had too much success in The States yet, but that should change soon. A telling sign is the critical they've had thus far over here. Their debut album, Partie Traumatic, was very well-received. SPIN Magazine, The New York Post, and NME all gave it a mention on their top album lists of 2008. Look out for more from the Columbia Records backed Black Kids!

The Dream Reborn.........WOW!!

I've never heard of this guy before, but I guess he is somewhat popular on Youtube. This particular segment he rants and complains about the sterotypical images of blacks on television and movies. I've listened to this and I have no idea what his stance is or what he is trying to get across. Here's a quick recap. He doesn't like the television show The Game, the second season of The Boondocks, Flavor Flav, New York (A.K.A. Tiffany Pollard), The Real World, College Hill, BET, and some other stuff. Now normally I would be all for someone wanting more positives images of African-Americans on television and film. I've wanted for years for shows like City of Angels to stay on forever. So my beef isn't with this guy's basic premise. It's with the ignorance and stupidity at which he makes his case. When I listen to this I get a feeling that he is a Black man who tries to "please" White people. Better yet, he wants the White population to know that he "isn't like THOSE Black people and he's DIFFERENT." He appears to not to want to be lumped into the sterotypical Black man category. And that's fine, but why the hell do you care about what someone else thinks of you. If someone of any color watches Flavor of Love, or Real and Chance, or any show like that and assumes that is how all Black men are, then they are ignorant. Smart White people know that not all Black people are a certain way. Smart Black people know that not all White people are a certain way. Anyone that does not understand that basic premise, does not deserve the time you would have to spend to explain that to them. You think I watch Jackass and think all White guys are like Bam or Steve-O? Hell no. The main difference between Blacks and Whites in the media is that White people have the luxury of having comedies, reality shows, and movies that portray them in a negative light because they have numerous other shows that outweigh the bad. For every Paris Hilton's My New BFF is an ER. For every Jackass there is a Seinfeld. We don't have that luxury as Black people. There are some great roles that we have on TV. S. Epatha Merkerson on Law and Order, Dennis Haysbert on The Unit and Jada Pinkett Smith on HawthoRNe. We've had The Miracle at St. Anna in theaters as well as The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency on HBO. There are numerous other examples. So we have a long way to go, but if you want to find positive images of African-American's in the media they are there. Back to his point. I thought The Game was a good show. Sterotypical? Maybe. But, I always felt the writing on the show showed growth with the characters and the good and bad to the lifestyles of pro athelets and their wives/girlfriends. And Malik being a "momma's boy" was not as exaggerated as he made it seem. And the gold digger on the show was.......white! The second season of The Boondocks was less political than the first. But, just because the show focused more on Riley doesn't mean it was "niggerish" at all. "The S-Word" and "The Story of Catcher Freeman" put a humorous spin on sensitive topics and still came out very good. And "The Hunger Strike" and the "Uncle Ruckus Reality Show" were two of the funniest and most critically acclaimed shows of either season. I don't know what this guy was trying to prove with this video, but he did a piss poor job in explaining it. Let me know if I'm tripping!!

The more things change...

The "let the Lox go" campaign took place roughly 10 years ago.  The lox ditched Bad Boy and their shiny suits for the dirty denim of Ruff Ryders and some mediocre success.  Since that time Kiss, Styles, and Sheek have all released solo LP's, and their label D Block continues to struggle to get off the ground.  So of course now that it's time to release the next Lox group LP, the group has decided to sign with... P. Diddy.  Without getting into too many specifics, the Lox could have a couple million extra if they would have just stayed at Bad Boy and completed their contract instead of threatening to "drop a refrigerator" on litttle ol' Puff Daddy if they couldn't break their deal.  Anyways, here's the link.  http://www.sohh.com/2009/06/sheek_louch_confirms_lox.html

Here We Go Again.....

Wale, via Twitter, announces that the Back To The Feature mixtape will drop on Friday. We've heard this one before. I almost forgot about this mixtape. Nah, but seriously check it out if does drop.

Teacher using the N word!

I remember seeing this video sometime last year and Jermaine Dupri posted it today on his Global14.com blog. It's still a little surprising to hear a teacher,of all people, talking like this. I feel he should know better and not stoop to a child's level in the first place. Just because people say it doesn't mean it's right. What about the other students in the class? They shouldn't hear this from their teacher. What do ya'll think?

OLD SKOOL VIDEO SPOTLITE - Master P feat. Silkk the Shocker - "Mr. Ice Cream Man"

This is the song that put Master P on the map! It's hard to believe that the dude released FOUR albums before he hit big with the album Ice Cream Man and the single "Mr. Ice Cream Man." I still remember kids coming to high school with this album and acting like it was the best thing since sliced bread. Never known as a master with his words, what P lacked in rhyming ability he made up for in beats and charisma. This video is what you would expect from Master P in 1996. Themes include cars, rims, and drug dealing. Mia X and Mo B. Dick show up to deliver the hook and Silkk actually says "crooked alligator" in his verse. No Limit had a hell of a run from '96-'99 and even if you were never a huge fan of their music you had to give their hustle game an A+. Oh yeah, and I don't think this song is about custard, soft-serve, or anything of the sort.

Idle Warship at SOB's

Former Artist Spotlight Alumni Idle Warship ripped SOB's a few months back. Res did her thing with some of her earlier joints and Talib took it back to "Get By." Their debut album, Party Robot, should be out sometime this year. Hopefully!

President Obama Speaks to the Muslim World in Cairo

This is an hour long clip so you may need to set some time aside to watch. I hear some Muslims were disappointed that he chose to speak at Cairo and not another city, such as Jakarta, that has a higher Muslim population. Pakistan comes in second in regards to the number of Muslims and there was NO WAY he was about to speak there. We have a long way to go as far as rebuilding the relationship between Muslims and Christians, but speeches like this give me confidence that it can be done. Let's hope that this is the first in a string of attempts to repair that relationship.

Interesting Drake Video

Drake talks about the old beef (if that's what you want to call it)with fellow Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall. This video is old but listen to what he says about his goals and definitely listen to the freestyle at the end.

Joey is Up Close and Personal..........Part 1

I will be the first to say that the whole Joe Budden x Method Man x Redman x Busta thing is kind of pointless. I don't see it leading to anything positive for hip-hop. Jay-Z vs. Nas this is NOT! Does Joey pop off at the mouth too much? Yes. Should he just concentrate on rapping and not worry about where he is ranked on a rap bracket? Yes. Do Meth, Red, and Busta have a right to say what they said on the radio? Of course. But, someone please tell me what comment in this video is false or out of line. Joey takes great pride in his raps and he is a beast on the mic. But, to be honest, he may not even be the best rapper in Slaughterhouse. He is my favorite by far, but he is not clearly better than Royce, Joell, or Crook. They are all monsters on the mic and that's why compliment each other so well. With all that said, let's get less talking and more rapping from all parties involved.

Nike Air Yeezy's Part 3

The third and possibly the last colorway of the Nike Air Yeezy's is about to drop. Commonwealth is holding a raffle again and people are expected to camp out at the other stores carrying them, once again. I just can't see myself ever camping out for anything. But hey, you got to do what you got to do to get what you want. Happy hunting!
